LATERAL DEPUTY SHERIFF

Lateral Deputy Requirements:

An in-state lateral peace officer is currently working as a certified peace officer for a law enforcement agency.

An out-of-state certified peace officer is currently working as certified peace officer for a law enforcement agency. Officers will be required to apply for reciprocity which we will help with.

Breaks in certified law enforcement service will be considered on a case-by-case basis, contact us to inquire.

Hiring Process:

Hiring timeline: the process can be completed in a short 3-4 weeks depending applicant's responsiveness to the hiring and background team.

The hiring team will work with applicants to minimize the amount of trips needed to complete the hiring process. The process can be completed in one trip over several days.

Oral board, scheduled upon application review. Oral board can be schedule in Globe, Payson, or over video conference for out-of-state applicants.

 

Submit/complete AZ POST form for Law Enforcement

 

Background interview (includes: criminal history check, fingerprints, offline search)

Polygraph examination

Psychological examination

AZ POST medical examination

POPAT - physical fitness examination: 500-meter run, 99-yard obstacle course, 165-pound body drag, being able to climb over a 6-foot block wall and a 6-foot chain link fence.  All events are timed and scored.

Can I retest if I fail any portion of the hiring process?

Yes, depending on what you fail will determine how long you must wait to retest. 

Gila County Highlights:

 

Take home patrol vehicle assigned for each deputy.

Specialty positions to include: Gila County Task Force, GIITEM (DPS) Task Force, K9 Unit, Dive Team, Search & Rescue, Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB), School Resource Officer (SRO), and Lake Patrol. Time in-service at your previous agency will be taken into consideration for specialty positions based on the needs of the Sheriff's Office.

Step 4: $64,396.00                   
Step 5: $65,897.00                 

Step 6: $67,435.00
Step 7: $69,012.00
Step 8: $70,628.00
Step 9: $72,284.00

(Salaries do not include COLA stipend or overtime opportunities)

Lateral applicants may be eligible to start at various steps depending on years of law enforcement service. Years of military service may also be taken into consideration.
