PATROL BUREAU


To protect and serve the community of Gila County through patrol, education, training and other community involvement that reduces or eliminates criminal activity, teaches crime prevention, and encourages residents to enjoy safe homes and neighborhoods.

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS 

The Criminal Investigations Division investigates any criminal activities that occur in the unincorporated areas of Gila County.  The Criminal Investigations Division cases may involve homicide, theft, burglary, shoplifting, assault (as well as attempted assault), bribery, robbery or any other criminal activity. Additionally, the Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for registering and tracking sex offenders who reside in Gila County, this also includes community notifications.

K-9 UNIT

The K-9 Unit consists of one Commander, three Deputies, two Detention Officers and six K-9’s. One K-9 is single purpose narcotics detection and the other five K-9’s are narcotics detection and patrol trained. The narcotics detections K-9’s are trained to detect marijuana, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamines and fentanyl. The patrol trained K-9’s are utilized for building searches, area searches, trailing and tracking along with evidence recovery searches. The Sheriff’s Office currently has two K-9 Units assigned to the patrol division, two assigned to the detention division and two assigned to the Gila County Drug, Gang, and Violent Crimes Task Force.

GILA COUNTY DRUG, GANG AND VIOLENT CRIMES TASK FORCE

The mission of the Gila County Drug, Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force is to provide all citizens of Gila County a comprehensive, coordinated narcotics, gang and violent crimes enforcement Division composed of local, state, federal resources and personnel. Through the professional investigation, apprehension, and conviction of street and mid-level drug violations as well as community education to deter future violations; the Task Force will strive to reduce drug and gang related crimes thus improving the quality of life for all residents of Gila County.

LAKE PATROL DIVISION

The Gila County Sheriff's Office is one of a few in the state responsible for patrolling waterways. Roosevelt Lake, which is 19,199 surface acres in size, falls within Gila County. The Sheriff’s Office, along with Arizona Game & Fish, is tasked with enforcing watercraft regulations. Deputies inspect boats to ensure operators are carrying the required equipment and observing all water related laws. In addition, the Roosevelt Substation provides safe boating education classes to the public and works with a variety of federal, state and local agencies.

DIVE TEAM/ SWIFT WATER RESCUE

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office Dive/Swift Water Rescue Team consists of Sworn Deputies, Reserve Deputies, Detention Officers, and Search and Rescue Personnel. All divers are issued full dive gear such as breathing apparatuses, wetsuits, drysuits, and underwater communication devices. Our team uses state-of-the-art underwater electronics such as Sonar, Magnetometer, and Metal Detectors. The Gila County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team is frequently called to conducts lake and river rescues for persons, and evidence. This consists of surface and subsurface search operations. In addition, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team assists other agencies with similar operations.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS (SRO)

School Resource Officers play an important role in Gila County Schools.  The SRO Squad has a presence in Hayden/Winkelman, Miami, Tonto Basin, Pine/Strawberry and Young area schools.  Three uniformed Deputies teach law related education to the students based on an approved curriculum and serve as much valued connection to the school districts.
