The Gila County Sheriff's Office will support the citizens, visitors and the Justice System within Gila County by maintaining peaceful and orderly communities. We will be accessible and accountable to the citizens of our communities, providing them with economical, consistent and compassionate service. We pledge the highest standard of professionalism, integrity, ethics and performance as we deal with the communities that we serve in a fair and impartial manner. ABOUT US
The Gila County Sheriff's Office is a public service organization that is dedicated to providing the best possible service to the citizens of Gila County. Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd and his staff work countless hours to keep everyone in Gila County safe. Sheriff Shepherd's goal is to provide a safe community in which to live, work, shop and enjoy our many natural resources.
The powers and duties of the Sheriff, as governed by the Arizona Revised Statutes § 11-441, include preserving the peace; taking charge of the county jail and the inmates in the county jail; serve process and notices; and conducting search and rescue operations within the county involving the life or health of any person.
The Gila County Sheriff's Office is comprised of three bureaus:
The Administration Bureau provides support services to both the Detention and Patrol Bureaus in such critical areas as Communications (Dispatch), Civil Division, Evidence Custodian, Finance, Human Resources/Payroll, Information Technology, Records and Voice Stress Analysis/Pre-employment Background Investigations.
The Patrol Bureau is responsible for patrol activity throughout the unincorporated areas of the County to enforce laws and conduct crime prevention activities. This bureau is comprised of the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, K-9 Unit, Drug, Gang and Violent Crimes Task Force, School Resource Officers (SRO) and Lake Patrol Division.
The Detention Bureau provides for the care, custody and control of prisoners with the intent to reduce recidivism in Gila County through education and services provided to prisoners both accused of or convicted of crimes.
